The design of the new ATC subwoofer:

Building on a proven philosophy ATC Loudspeakers, which involves creating speaker systems from the highest-quality components; the subwoofers are equipped with a new sub-bass driver, developed by ATC’s researchand optimized for reproducing the lowest four octaves of the audio spectrum.  To achieve the best performance, the ATC studio subwoofer was designed with a 30-millimeter magnetic gap—50% longer than any other previously offered by ATC.  The long-gap, short-voice-coil configuration pushes ATC’s long-standing design philosophy to its limits, minimizing distortion while delivering the high linear excursion required for accurate and dynamic low-frequency reproduction.  The new 6″/150mm N48M neodymium magnet is the most powerful ever assembled by ATC Loudspeakers. In addition to minimizing distortion, the short-voice-coil, long-gap configuration ensures that the voice coil remains surrounded by the steel structure at all times, maximizing cooling, reducing power compression, and improving reliability.  Turbulent airflow inside the driver is minimized by a large, flattened vent running through the center of the structure, which has the added benefit of enhancing cooling.

The ATC SCS70 Pro studio subwoofers deliver an extended low-frequency response without the use of electronic sound correction, unlike many subwoofers currently on the market. The new subwoofers combine exceptional driver engineering with a slightly larger enclosure volume. The simplicity of this approach reduces phase shift and group delay, thereby integrating seamlessly with the ATC monitor series.  Ultimately, this provides a more balanced and consistent listening experience, extending the low-frequency response without masking details or altering the tonal character in the upper bass and lower midrange.

An ATC amplifier that's a perfect match for the monitor:

Drawing on 34 years of experience in amplifier design and development, ATC’s team of electronic engineers has delivered a completely new amplifier for these two new subwoofers.  300 watts—this Class AB design is hand-built and precisely optimized by ATC at their British facility, resulting in fast, dynamic bass.  Two balanced inputs allow connection to stereo, multichannel, or immersive audio systems, while two balanced outputs enable the connection of monitor speakers or the daisy-chaining of multiple subwoofers.  The built-in low-pass filters are analog, 4th-order Linkwitz-Riley, and the filter frequency options ensure optimal integration with a wide range of studio monitors.  It also features a standard 80 Hz low-pass filter, a polarity switch, and smooth 180° phase adjustment.

SCS70iW Pro

The SCS70iW Pro (In-Wall) is designed for in-wall installation.  Thanks to its shallower enclosure and recessed input connector panel, it maximizes floor space, while the accompanying remotely mounted R1-300 Pro amplifier, sized at 7U/19″, offers users the flexibility to install the amplifier on a wall near the subwoofer, in the subwoofer enclosure, or in the equipment room.  The subwoofer and remote amplifier are connected via an NL4 speaker cable and a 5-pin XLR cable (sold separately and available in various lengths).

Additional features:

The SCS70 Pro’s output can be muted using a single footswitch connected to the mute input (¼” / 6.35 mm jack).  Additional subwoofers can be muted using the same footswitch, connected via the 'Thru’ mute jack.

Applications of the SCS70 studio subwoofer:

The size and performance of the SCS70 Pro make it the perfect companion for a wide range of ATC studio monitors, including SCM12 Pro, SCM20A Pro, SCM25A Pro, SCM45A Pro and up to SCM50A Pro including. Several subwoofers can be used to boost performance, fill larger rooms, and when paired with larger ATC studio monitor models. Connecting via the built-in inputs and outputs simplifies the setup of multiple subs. The new ATC Loudspeakers SCS70 subwoofer will therefore be the ideal solution for surround sound and immersive audio (Dolby Atmos) monitoring systems, which place particularly high demands on low-frequency response. The two new designs offer exceptional clarity at higher SPLs.

It is recommended to use Dolby Audio Room Design Tool (DARDT) to assist in the design of Dolby Atmos systems based on ATC monitors, ensuring compliance with the format guidelines and achieving the best possible performance.

The new ATC subwoofers offer an upgrade path for customers with smaller monitors who don’t have room for larger mid-field or far-field monitors, and they’re an excellent choice for surround and immersive applications.  Regardless of how someone chooses to use them, the new SCS70 Pro and SCS70iW Pro are two powerful additions to the ATC Professional series product line.
