SSL - AWS Delta
SSL AWS Delta Analog Recording Studio Console
First, the AWS 916 Delta, which is 16 analog channels expandable to 24. Second, the 924 Delta version, which is 24 tracks and, third, the 948 Delta model, which is 48 channels capable of operating in three different modes including in-line.
Each of the three console models (916, 924 and 948) is available in the same compact frame with 16 or 24 faders. The AWS (Analogue Workstation System) series console was introduced to the market in 2004, and since then it has become a kind of standard in medium-format recording studios. Therefore, this device can be described as a professional recording and production table that combines classic technology SSL SuperAnalogue™ With comprehensive DAW control in one „box.”.
Console channels: mono, stereo and full in-line
The latest 48-channel version of SSL AWS is encapsulated in the frame of the 24-channel version. This is made possible through the use of Dual Channel Strip technology. This model enables SuperAnalogue™ technology. It features both 24 SSL SuperAnalogue ultra-clean analog preamps and line inputs, as well as classic EQ on each channel, two SSL Dynamics compressors, the legendary Stereo Buss Compressor, TotalRecall™ function, and full 5.1 listening. What's more, in addition to classic SSL automation, the console operates in the revolutionary new Delta mode, which allows motorized analog faders to work with DAW automation.
AWS is an SSL SuperAnalogue™ console, providing sound that has become a reference for other manufacturers. Because it boasts exceptionally low THD and levels of noise floor&crosstalk, its sound is absolutely pristine. Both the incredible fullness and space allow you to see every nuance in the project. Therefore, the realizer working on the AWS table can mix „harder” without any distortion.

Main features of AWS consoles
Delta-Control Plug-in for SSL AWS Consoles
Native tool in AAX/AU/VST/VST3 format for controlling AWS console channels from within a DAW program (ProTools).
The automation system in the DAW is used to record and playback control data from faders and switches on the console. In addition, the Delta-Ctrl plug-in is run on the audio channel of the DAW mixer. It receives and sends console control data from and to the assigned AWS channel, VCA or master fader via Ethernet.
Automation data can be viewed and edited in normal data in a DAW program. Attenuator values are saved using the same dB formula as in Pro Tools, so copy/paste functions can be used for easier copying of existing settings in Pro Tools. What's more, the Delta-Ctrl plug-in additionally saves all key operational elements of the SSL AWS System's Signature Mix.
Central section of the console
Stereo Bus Compressor
Stereo Bus Compressor in the center section is the legendary G-series compressor, which has helped mix many of the world's hits for top sound engineers. In addition, it can be assigned to one of the REC or MIX summing rails.
Assignable console dynamics processors
SSL Dynamics' two classic compressors feature separate Dynamic, Gate and Expander sections. They can be assigned
to any channel. Assignable dynamics are standard Dynamics RMS with the ability to toggle hard knee characteristics via the „pk” button. Moreover, separate controls for expander or gate include the ability to control range, threshold, release and hold.
Communication in the recording studio
The AWS analog mixer offers a comprehensive talkback routing solution with dedicated communication buttons for independent foldback dispatches.
Monitoring and measuring levels in SSL AWS
A new level of operation and monitoring of analog and digital signals. The center section gives you total control over two independent 5.1 systems plus two independent stereo A and B sets named „mini” and a dedicated headphone output. Independent sub-bass management is possible. Flexible EXTERNAL inputs can be summed and assigned to listen to 5.1 stereo sources and/or headphones.
TotalRecall function
TotalRecall TM is a patented SSL technology for saving and recalling console settings for a specific project or session. What's more, the system takes a snapshot of current console settings and saves it using SSL Remote software.
Summing buses and CUE and FX dispatches
To accommodate modern production methods, AWS consoles have an independent summing input to add traces from the DAW to the CUE and FX Send buses.
- Combination of an analog console working in SuperAnalogue technology with an advanced DAW controller (ProTools, Logic, Cubase, Reaper, Ableton Live)
- SSL's famous SuperAnalogue preamps known from the legendary 9000 series consoles
- three channel modes (AWS948)*:
- IN-LINE TRACKING = 1 mic + 1 line per channel
- IN-LINE MIX = 2x mono line input per channel
- STEREO MIX = 1 x stereo input per channel
- Delta control is a feature that allows automated faders to work with a DAW program through a dedicated Delta plugin
- SSL 4-band equalizer (selectable E or G) with HF and LF filters
- monitoring 5.1
- MIDI control via ETHERNET port
- saving the settings of the console on the SD card
- TOTAL RECALL function (restoring console settings from another session) from a saved session in Pro Tools or the dedicated AWS Remote application
