SSL System T S300
SSL System T S300 digital console for broadcast and recording studio
The T System S300 is both a collection of more than 30 years of innovative broadcast console design and experience in audio technology development. The real innovation of the T System lies in the technology and design of concepts through T linking. This is why the SSL System T operates in a networked environment. This allows free expansion not only of user interface (controller) type units, but also of the DSP processor and I/O device.
The digital console communicates over the protocol DANTE AoIP, therefore, provides true scalability and discoverability of devices in this standard from the controller. What's more, the T Sytem (DSP) engine called TEMPEST is taken from the LIVE series consoles. It is the optimal solution for real-time audio transfer and mixing. The sound quality is familiar from SSL's flagship consoles with technology SUPERANALOGUE additionally combined with 64-bit processing.
Drivers for smaller sound productions
Model S300-16.
The S300 is a compact control surface that can be combined with any T System component: controller, motor, stageboxes. It can work both as part of a larger T System and in standalone installations in smaller studios or OB Vans. What's more, the S300 comes in three versions that differ in the number of faders.
Model S300-32.
The controllers can connect to T25 engines (256 tracks at 48kHz) or T80 processor (800 tracks at 48kHz) and work the same as the larger controllers T S500 System.
Model S300-48.
Version with 48 faders + 1 in the center section. The S300-48 provides more faders and multi-operator capability. The surface has built-in 2 independent FPP processors giving the possibility to divide the work into two independent sections 32 and Master section and 16 faders. S300-48 is designed for integration in installations where there is a need for two producers to work independently with limited size and budget. It is an ideal solution for smaller studios, TV or radio trucks.
The S300 is a combination of extremely powerful features, versatile options and a friendly work style
The S300 gives not only extraordinary power, but also versatility in the quality known from SSL consoles with a friendly control surface that is intuitive for the realizer. The S300 series controllers are simple and user-friendly. What's more, when combined with a processor and input and output modules in a variety of formats, you can easily configure a fully networked system tailored to your needs.
For larger installations for broadcast and studio, the S300 controllers can be a great option as an add-on console to the head controller, for example. System T S500. Therefore, SHOWFILE's full compatibility between interfaces enables seamless switching between consoles.
The three main components of the SSL System T
- SSL System T S300 console, which can be combined with other consoles, remote equipment and touchscreen with Dante AoIP technology.
- Tempest Engine (T80 or T25), which provides the most comprehensive audio processing today.
- Input/output modules in all currently available audio formats.
All SSL digital console components connected via a convenient Routing system that can connect more than 1,000 products running both Dante and AES67 or SMPTE 2110-30.
Full Control of Audio Over IP Networks in SSL System T
SSL has almost 40 years of experience in building analog and digital consoles. They have set standards in terms of operation and functionality for studio and broadcaster work. The S300 controllers are part of a new generation of broadcast consoles called System T. The units operate fully in a network environment. This makes it easy to connect them to each other or to remote computers. This includes touch screen terminals and remote hardware panels. A single or redundant pair of processor engines can be simultaneously shared with three independent S300, S500 and/or TCR. The T system enables a true remote control approach and convenient audio infrastructure design.
With SSL System T, Dante AoIP network technology (also AES 67) replaces traditional TDM routing. This solution has a wide range of operational and commercial benefits. Dante is a licensed AoIP technology that uses standard IT infrastructure for audio transmission, routing, device discovery and control. Dante is highly efficient, extremely versatile and fully scalable. A single gigabit network connection can contain 512 channels of audio at 48 kHz or 256 channels at 96 kHz. One 24-port switch can support up to 12,288 signals.
Why DANTE?
The DANTE protocol gives access to seamless interoperability with more than 350 licensed manufacturers that make more than 1,000 devices. The SSL System T is also fully compatible with the AES67 protocol and is ready to work with the SMPTE 2110-30 protocol. The system allows full control of Dante network routing from the console and control interfaces.
Dante uses full detection of devices like plug and play, with the ability to move across the network and reconnect with settings intact. Fully redundant network topologies used and proven in many IT applications provide the security required in studio and broadcast infrastructures.
DSP main processor
The engines for the SSL System T consoles called Tempest OCP (Optimal Core Processing) have been developed so that the control software can also be used on PCs. The DSPs, enclosed in a 4U rackmount, are available in two versions;
- T80 - 800 audio tracks
- T25 - 256 audio tracks
The SSL System T's audio tracks and processing can be dynamically allocated in real time without interrupting the audio. Each TEMPEST unit can handle up to 3072 inputs and outputs giving the System T the ability to handle any production. Tempest engines can be arranged as mirrored redundant pairs or each engine can be placed in separate zones. This allows audio switching from among the available 6 Dante HC I/O network cards, where each supports 512 inputs and 512 outputs (3072 signals in total).

Advanced digital console architecture for studio and broadcast
The SSL digital console has exceptional power and flexibility. This is due to the 3072 I/O and the processing power of the T80 (800 active audio tracks) and T25 (256 active audio tracks) engines. Tracks are collected and consumed dynamically according to user configuration. Any configuration of the SSL System T console within the limits of the available track pool is possible. Input channels or buses can be added or reconfigured at any time without restarting or disrupting the audio.
BUS output buses
The pool of 192 mono buses in the T80 unit or 128 in the T25 can be freely configured between the available types:
- 16 Master Bus
- 32 Aux
- 48 Mix Minus
- 32 Stems
- 64 Track Buses
Both the tracks and bus bars of the SSL System T S300 and S500 can be freely configured from mono to formats Immersive Sound. Layering with built tracks on the console is done via an intuitive drag-and-drop interface.
Audio processing in the audio circuit of a conosletta
Along with a large number of tracks, the SSL System T provides access to large audio processing resources. This includes 800 (T80) or 256 (T25) equalizers, dynamics sections (T80 x 800, T25 x 256) and DELAY (T80 x 400, T25 x 128). The signal path has eight process blocks, which can be configured in any order by drag and drop. Two dynamics sections can be placed in each path. This allows you to cascade compressor/limiter configurations or add dynamics to a channel's direct output. In addition, there is an INSERT point on each channel, which allows you to access the FX Rack section or route external devices in a quick way. In addition, you will find 2fader for automation and the Automix section.
FX Rack in SSL System T S300
The SSL System T has a built-in FX Rack as standard, which includes a comprehensive set of established high-quality processors with its own dedicated DSP package. Choose from metering tools, a sound generator, dynamic effects, various types of reverbs, automix and much more. Effects are available via INSERT point on channels or via routing via Aux and Track. All settings are saved in the System T Showfiles folder and snapshot in the automation section.
The effects available in the FX Rack can work in all the formats a console can work in: MONO, STEREO, 4.0, 5.1, 5.1.2, 5.1.4, 7.1.2, 7.1.4, 4.0.4. With these tools, the SSL System T is a fully turnkey solution for studio and broadcast without the need for other external equipment.
