ATC Company announces the launch of a new mid-sized center channel studio monitor, the SCM105AC Pro. This new model is based on the existing SCM110A Pro, but has been specifically designed for use as a center channel in surround and immersive audio systems. It features a symmetrical driver layout and a significantly reduced cabinet height, making it easier to install in undersized control rooms. Two versions of the product are available: the SCM105AC, designed for free-standing installation, and the SCM105AiWC, designed for wall mounting.
SCM105AC Pro
The SCM105AC Pro is designed to be self-mounted (on a stand), and its design and performance are very similar to the highly successful SCM110A Pro mid-field studio monitor. It has the same combination of dual 9-inch/234-millimeter SL bass drivers, 3-inch/75-millimeter Superdome midrange drivers and 1-inch/25-millimeter S-Spec tweeters. Amplification is provided by the same 350-watt amplifier, delivering 200 watts, 100 watts and 50 watts to the bass, midrange and tweeter sections, respectively, and the drivers are precisely integrated using fourth-order LR electronic crossovers.
SCM105AiWC Pro (for wall mounting)
The SCM105AiWC Pro is designed for recessed wall mounting and differs from the SCM105AC Pro in the following features:
- Front partition with square edges all over.
- Recessed rear entry panel.
- R1-350 Pro 19”/6U Remote Amplifier.
- Connect the amplifier to the speaker using NL8 speaker cables and 5-pin LED XLR cables.
The wall-mounted version is designed to provide identical performance to the free-standing model, but note that wall-mounting typically increases low-frequency extension and performance (due to half-space radiation compared to full-space).
R1-350 Pro remote amplifier
The SCM105AiWC wall-mounted speaker mating amplifier is a 1-channel, 3-way R1-350 Pro, a 19”/6U rack-mounted version that powers the SCM105AC (and SCM50/100/110/150) speakers. It is designed to be mounted in the wall of a control room or in a 19” rack. Symmetrical audio and power connections are made via XLR and IEC connectors on the front panel. Speaker connections are made via NL8 and 5-pin XLR connectors mounted on the rear panel for speaker audio level and power/limit LEDs, respectively. Cables are available in a variety of lengths, but we recommend a maximum speaker cable length of 10 meters to ensure the best sound quality.
Application
The main use of the SCM105AC and SCM105AiWC Pro studio monitors is as center channels in 5.1, 7.1 and immersive audio systems such as Dolby Atmos. However, their performance is not dependent on a specific application/channel, and both new products can be used as left/right stereo pairs or as surround channels if the cabinet format is the best solution for the room.
