DirectOut USB.MADI

USB.MADI is a compact SFP module developed in collaboration with RME, featuring a full-featured USB audio interface.

When installed directly into a DirectOut slot, the MADI SFP provides support for 64 channels of input/out via a USB-C connector with extremely low latency, working with both Windows and Mac, making it one of the smallest professional multichannel sound cards available on the market.

Stable and redundant playback systems

USB.MADI turns a DirectOut device into a reliable playback machine.

In mission-critical applications, the combination of EARS™ (Enhanced Automatic Redundancy Switching) and USB.MADI technology provides an unprecedented level of reliability. In the event of a failure of the primary playback source, the system automatically switches to the backup source, ensuring uninterrupted audio during concerts, theatrical performances, and television broadcasts.

By using RME's low-latency drivers, you can use the module as a high-performance VST host, integrating your favorite plugins directly into the live signal chain.

Recording and Conversion

USB MADI turns the DirectOut converter into a high-channel-count interface for your DAW. Take advantage of the excellent AD/DA conversion quality of the PRODIGY or MAVEN series while recording up to 64 channels of high-resolution audio.

Class Compliant (CC) firmware enables driver-free operation, allowing you to record high-quality audio directly on an iPad or mobile device.

Advanced speaker processor

USB.MADI is the perfect addition to your hardware setup, enabling comprehensive system management.

This module can be used to conduct a virtual sound check by routing multitrack recordings back to the system without having to change the connection configuration.

Seamless integration with analytical tools such as Smaart allows for precise tuning of the system.

Whether you're using VST plugins or managing complex signal paths, USB.MADI provides a reliable connection between your measurement software and your sound system.

One device, multiple hosts

Any DirectOut device can now function as a sound card. Thanks to two or more SFP slots in most models (except the EXBOX), you can connect two computers to the same device for parallel recording or processing.

OPERATING MODES AND CONFIGURATION

The USB.MADI device is active and ready for use whenever it is connected simultaneously to an SFP MADI host and to a computer via USB.

  • Driver-based mode (default): When you unpack the USB.MADI device, it operates in a mode that relies on drivers for Windows and macOS. To use this mode, you must install the dedicated drivers available at the RME website.
  • Class-Compliant Mode: For the USB.MADI device to operate in class-compliant mode, you must flash it with class-compliant firmware using the tool RME Flash Tool.
